CIPS employs a hybrid settlement mechanism combining Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and Deferred Net Settlement (DNS) to meet the diverse needs of participants and conserve their liquidity. CIPS supports payment and clearing services in both Renminbi (RMB) and Hong Kong Dollars (HKD), adopting a "single-point access, centralized clearing" model to provide participants with unified and efficient clearing and settlement services. Business types include cross-border remittances, financial market business (DvP, PvP), and clearing institution money market lending business.
Focusing on the cross-bank public service scenarios in the context of cross-border RMB payment, by formulating unified rules, standards and processes, information services covering trade settlement, cross-border investment and financing, financial markets and other scenarios are provided to participating institutions to enhance the overall efficiency and transparency of cross-border RMB.
