On September 26-27, 2016, CIPS Operator attended the 39th SWIFT International Banker’s Operation Seminar (also known as SIBOS) by invitation in Geneva. SIBOS 2016, with “Transforming the Landscape” as the theme, covered hot spots of financial market that included ever changing trends of payments and securities industry, news on financial crime & compliance, financial innovation and technical development facing both opportunities and challenges.
On the afternoon of 26, CIPS Operator, together with Bank of China, held a CIPS Community Session with “CIPS: The Next Generation of Financial Market Infrastructure for RMB Internationalization” as the main topic. General Manager of CIPS Operator, Xin Zhang, delivered a speech in English in this session, during which she gave a brief introduction to the construction backgrounds, key features, business development and future plans of Cross-border Interbank Payment System, a.k.a. CIPS. Panelists from Bank of China, HSBC and Payment and Clearing Association of China joined CIPS Operator in this session and shared their distinctive insights into RMB internationalization in turn. The CIPS Community Session is the first Community Session that was ever run by Chinese financial institutions at SIBOS. More than 150 people participated in the CIPS session and actively interacted with panelists.
At SIBOS, CIPS Operator had panel discussions with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, Deutsche Bank, BNP PARIBAS and Baoshang Bank respectively, and visited related booths of foreign financial institutions. In addition, CIPS Operator also attended several other events such as “China Night”, “Global Payment Innovation Initiative”, etc.
SIBOS, organized and facilitated by SWIFT, is a significant annual international conference of the financial services industry, which is of great international influence. This year at SIBOS, RMB internationalization, CIPS’s establishment & development and other related topics received extensive attention.
